Amid concerns about the spread of COVID-19, and in the interest of the health and safety of our audience, staff, singers, and our community, Masterworks Chorale has suspended Monday evening rehearsals for the time being and closed our office to walk-in traffic. Office staff will work remotely, and voicemail and email messages will be checked regularly and returned within one business day.
Our board of directors continues to communicate with one another and monitor the situation, making decisions based on the most current and accurate information available; instructions from State and local authorities, CDC or WHO; and input from our members.
Below is a letter to singers from our board president explaining the board's decision to suspend rehearsals.
Dear Masterworks Chorale singers, board members, and employees:
The Board of Directors has determined to suspend rehearsals of Masterworks Chorale effectively immediately.
The Board came to that decision after hearing from a number of you over the last few days and reviewing other information that has come in about the incidence of coronavirus in Indiana (particularly nearby) as well as the recent declaration of national emergency and related information.
The Board became aware late yesterday afternoon of new CDC guidance recommending restriction of gatherings larger than 50 for the next 60 days. While we have not had an opportunity to discuss this as a Board, we will review this within the next two weeks and be in touch with you about the workshop, concert, annual meeting, etc. The health and wellbeing of the Masterworks Chorale singers, employees, and audience will remain our top priority in all of our deliberations.
Thank you for your consideration and patience as we continue to work through this situation. Please take all necessary steps to ensure your health and well-being. We want to see everyone again next fall.
President, Board of Directors 2019-2020
