As Associate Director of Choral Activities at Ball State University, Dr. Kerry Glann conducts the Concert Choir and Women’s Chorus, prepares opera choruses, and teaches conducting and graduate choral literature. A native of Ohio, he taught in the public schools for five years and in the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music at Kent State University. He holds degrees in music education and conducting from Bowling Green State University and Kent State University and a Doctor of Musical Arts in choral conducting from the University of North Texas.
Outside his work at Ball State and with Masterworks Chorale, Dr. Glann serves as Conductor of the Evansville Philharmonic Chorus, Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church in Muncie, and President-Elect of the Indiana Choral Directors Association. He has appeared as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator across the country. Collegiate choirs under his direction have performed at conferences of the Indiana Music Education Association, Ohio Music Education Association, and American Choral Directors Association Central/North Central Divisions and with the Canton (Ohio) and Muncie Symphony Orchestras.
An experienced theatre conductor, Dr. Glann spent seventeen seasons as musical director of The Huron Playhouse, a professional-grade summer theatre in Huron, Ohio, where he led performances of over thirty productions. He is now on the directing staff of the Bigfork Summer Playhouse in Bigfork, Montana. He also headed the opera program at Kent State University for three years. His operatic conducting credits include university and professional productions of I Pagliacci, Il tabarro, Madame Butterfly, The Pirates of Penzance, Trial by Jury, Gallantry, and The Medium.
His conducting teachers include Richard Mathey, C.M. Shearer, and Jerry McCoy.
Barbara Briner-Jones, accompanist for Masterworks Chorale since 1983, is a native of Muncie, Indiana. She is a graduate of Ball State University with a B.A. degree in music and an M.A. degree in piano accompanying. During her years at Ball State, she studied piano with Catherine Rutledge and Michel Bourgeot. She served as accompanist for the University Singers and for Ball State Concert Choirs under the direction of Don Neuen, George Corwin and Robert Rockabrand. She has accompanied for many student and faculty recitals at Ball State. Ms. Briner-Jones is currently a staff accompanist in the Ball State University School of Music.
