Director of choral activities at Ball State University, Dr. Andrew Crow leads the Ball State Statesmen and the Chamber Choir, teaches conducting and choral literature, and supervises students pursuing advanced degrees in conducting. He is a dedicated church musician and is Director of Music Ministries at High Street United Methodist Church in Muncie. He previously served prominent churches in Philadelphia and Minneapolis.
Many members of Masterworks Chorale have performed with Dr. Crow in his “Musica in Situ” program. Since the summer of 2011, Crow has led this intergenerational choir, which tours annually to perform choral music in historic and interesting architectural spaces. This “In situ” choir has joined Masterworks members with singers from Ball State University, Magic City Music Men, and several local church choirs, with members ranging in age from 16 to 86. Some unique concert venues included a space observatory, a library, and county courthouses in addition to numerous beautiful houses for worship.
A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Dr. Crow earned the Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting, including studies with choral, orchestral and wind ensembles. Following studies at Temple University, where he earned the degree of Master of Music in Choral Conducting in studies with Alan Harler, he taught at Rutgers University in Camden, New Jersey.
As an undergraduate at Ohio State University, Dr. Crow toured widely with the renowned Men’s Glee Club under the direction of James Gallagher, and he performed frequently with Robert Shaw, seminal influences for a life in choral music.
Dr. Crow is an experienced singer, orchestral conductor and piano technician. As a singer, he performed regularly with Apollo’s Fire, Cleveland’s professional baroque ensemble. In 2012, Crow made his debut conducting the Muncie Symphony Orchestra for its holiday pops concert. He is passionate about male vocal ensembles and his writing and research interests include the intersection of music with other disciplines.
